The construction of the third Armenia-Iran high-voltage line began 17 years ago, in 2006, but the actual work began in 2015-2016. From February-March 2018, large-scale work continued. Work has slowed down due to the coronavirus pandemic and the war, but the Armenian government hopes that by the end of this year it will complete the Iran-Armenia project, that is, the line will be ready all the way to Hrazdan. After the construction of the third high-voltage line, the transmission capacity will be 1,200 megawatts per hour instead of the current 340 megawatts. This means that Armenia will be able to export up to 7-7.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, if the power supply regimes are established in the most ideal state, on average it will be possible to export up to 5.5-6 billion kWh.

The loan for the construction was provided by the Iranian Development and Export Bank, the contractor is the Iranian company "Samir". Despite the delay in the completion of construction for various reasons, 90 percent or more of the obstacles are no longer in place. This project will increase the volume of barter, under which Armenia receives gas from Iran, generates electricity and supplies it to Iran.

It should be noted that now between Iran and Armenia there are 2 lines up to 220 kV, the third line with a voltage of 400 kV will allow to increase the flow of electricity between the two countries.

It should be noted that the construction of the 4th power line Armenia-Georgia (from Ddmashen to the Georgian border) is planned, the activation of which will allow linking and synchronizing the energy systems of the three countries.

In the direction of Georgia, the project has reached the tender stage, several proposals have been received from companies, they are being studied and, if successful, it will be possible to proceed with a preliminary assessment, then construction.
