Armenia is planning, presumably from 2025, to build a new nuclear power unit. To achieve this goal, a working commission has been created and is operating, discussions are underway to specify a number of details in order to begin the actual preparatory work in the coming years and, presumably, from 2025 to begin construction of a new nuclear power unit.

The Armenian authorities are planning to build a new nuclear power plant in the country within 8-10 years. A variant of a typical standard power unit with a capacity of 1000-1200 MW is being considered. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2022 between ANPP CJSC and Rusatom Overseas JSC (a structure of the Rosatom Concern), the process of preparing the construction of a new nuclear power unit in the Republic of Armenia was launched.

There is an Armenian-Russian working group, which includes specialists from the ANPP, Rosatom structures, regulatory agencies, relevant organizations from both countries.
