Today Yerevan saves 50-70% in the external lighting network. The team project of Yerevan Municipality and the UNDP Armenian office set a new bar for city lighting.

City’s municipality noted the importance of not only replacing the lamps but also trying to ensure traffic safety by installing lights in appropriate spots to provide homogeneously distributed light in streets. The authorities announce a competition for the procurement of lamps and lanterns. Half of the price is paid by the community and half is paid from the saved means. This year, the amount made up 500 million and they paid 250 million.

The savings also make it possible to direct money to overhaul activities. New parking areas are being constructed, buildings with high emergency rates are being reconstructed, and new vehicles are being purchased to make the work of the company more effective. Besides, some pay rise has become possible.

In parallel with the teamwork with the partner organization, the community initiated some additional work. Secondary streets and yard areas are provided with energy-saving illumination. Within the frames of this program in 2023, 50% of the external illumination of Yerevan will be provided with energy-saving and modern LED lamps. The goal is to prolong the time of lighting in streets where it is on till midnight in winter and till 1am in summer.
