Georgia resumed purchasing electricity from Armenia in January 2022. According to the document «Energy Balance» of Georgia, 136 million kW/hour of electricity was purchased from Armenia in the first two months of this year.

According to the Electricity Market Operator of Georgia (ESCO), in 2021, 2020, and 2019, Georgia did not buy electricity from Armenia, and in 2018 it purchased 8 million kW/h from Armenia, in 2017 - 127 million kW/h, in 2015 - 86 million kW. kW/h, in 2014 - 2 million kW/h, in 2013, in 2012, and in 2016 did not buy at all.

The 251 million kW/h acquired by Georgia in 2022 are distributed among countries as follows:

  • 136 million kW/h from Armenia;
  • 114.8 million kW/h from Azerbaijan (62% less than in the previous year);
  • 52 million kW/h from Russia (excluding electricity supplied to Abkhazia);
  • Did not purchase electricity from Turkey this year (last year it purchased 7.5 million kW/h).
